It is situated in Mehrauli at few hundred meters from Qutub Minar. As per the
legends Yogmaya was Yashodhara's daughter who was exchanged soon after her
birth with Lord Krishna, the newly born son of Devki in the prison of the cruel
King Kansa in order to save Krishna from Kansa who used to kill every child of
Devki. When Kansa attempted to kill Yogmaya considering her to be Devki's
daughter, she escaped and soared high in the sky making the prophacy that Lord
Krishna would annihilate Kansa. The present temple was build in mid-nineteenth
century.
